Unica77 Font

Unica77 is Lineto's authorised digital revival of Haas Unica, remastered by Christian Mengelt from Team'77's original drawings and first released in 2014. Haas commissioned André Gürtler, Mengelt and Erich Gschwind to design the 1980 phototypesetting face after Linotype blocked further licensing of Neue Haas Grotesk; they based the new grotesque on a close study of Neue Haas Grotesk, Helvetica, Univers and Akzidenz Grotesk Buch. Haas Unica was issued in 1981 as a deliberately neutral Swiss modernist carrier, then vanished when the foundry was wound down. Mengelt reconstructed the eight original cuts for Lineto, later extending the family into Cyrillic and Greek.
