Brown is a geometric sans serif designed by Aurèle Sack and first released by Lineto in 2011. It fuses Edward Johnston's Johnston Sans (1916), drawn for London's Underground, with Arno Drescher's Super Grotesk (1930), which became one of East Germany's most widely used faces after the war. The pairing was proposed in 2007 by Lex Trüb and Urs Lehni; Sack later revised many glyphs, added Medium and Black, and developed non-Latin scripts with specialist collaborators. Narrow and Condensed families followed in 2022, with Mono and Graphic styles extending the system.
