Circular is a geometric sans serif designed by Laurenz Brunner and released by Lineto in 2013, his second official typeface after Akkurat. It revisits the geometric grotesk current of pre-war Germany—Erbar Grotesk, Futura, Kabel, and Neuzeit Grotesk—and later reworkings such as Herb Lubalin’s Avant Garde and Adrian Frutiger’s Avenir. Begun in 2008 from a purely geometric approach, the design grew more complex by release, marrying purity with warmth and balancing functionality with measured idiosyncrasy. The family is meant for headlines and body copy in editorial, advertising, and branding, and comprises eight weights with matching italics from Thin to ExtraBlack.
