News Gothic is the standard American sans serif of the first two thirds of the twentieth century, prepared for ATF by Morris Fuller Benton in 1908. A matching lightface was issued as Lightline Gothic. Linotype’s Trade Gothic follows the design except for its widely spaced, straight-sided boldface based on ATF. Bitstream’s News Gothic BT family presents the face in fourteen styles, from Light through Demi and Bold, with italics plus condensed and extra condensed widths.
